A Fabulous Bike Ride on May 19

LaBagh Woods
A great day for biking, parks, and architecture. Meet at the Picnic Shelter, LaBagh Woods Parking Lot. Entrance is on the east side of Cicero Ave, just north of Foster Ave. Look for a dark red sign for driveway into park and then veer to the left.
The route winds around a bit from the northwest side of Chicago to St. Paul Woods in the Forest Preserve at Morton Grove before returning via the North Branch Trail. We’ll go through several Chicago parks with great fieldhouse, along the river, and around Peterson Park with its mini-forest and neighboring North Park Village – tree nursery turned tuberculosis sanitarium and now senior housing. We’ll take a little time there to see the beautiful early 20th century brick architecture, and a short investigation of the waterfall, community garden, woods, and maybe even part of the nature trail. Continue onto Sauganash and Skokie Line Trails and St. Paul Woods, then return on the other side of the river, adding a quick tour of Old Edgebrook, a designated Historic Landmark neighborhood with “stately homes” and a tree park.
Leisurely ride with a possible stop at Emily Oaks Nature Center, depending on the group’s wishes; about 16 miles. Optional lunch afterwards at Sheebah Mandi House, 3456 W Foster, biking or driving the 2ish miles.
