About this event

Biking, Parks, Architecture! Join us for a wonderful bike ride on July 20.
We meet at Foster Beach’s Field House at 10:00 AM and head North. Most of the ride is on paths, with connecting streets. Start on city’s lakefront path, continue along Loyola’s lakefront, and through Loyola Park (glimpse its restored dunes). Pass Frank Lloyd Wright’s Emil Bach house and the adjacent Lang House on N. Sheridan Rd. before continuing via Evanston’s and Northwestern’s lakefront paths, with a short stop at the Shakespeare Garden; continue to the Bah’ai Temple (short stop/ visitor center has restrooms) and Gillson Park in Wilmette for picnic (bring lunch) or stop at a local café; optional stop near park exit for walking a bit in native garden. Cross over to start Green Bay Trail at train station, continue to Glencoe Beach Park and the remarkable view down to the beach and lake. If the group is interested, we can ride by Glencoe’s six FLW houses and bridge (restored), one of only two he designed and a National Historic Landmark, with a deep view into the ravine.
Approximately 32 miles without the FLW add-on. Parking is free in the series of lots AFTER the first one at Foster Beach. Closest el stops with elevator are on the Red Line at Wilson and Granville—a bit less than 2 miles each. Leisurely ride (about 10-12 mph) with these truly lovely stops.
