About this event

Enjoy a Fun Fall Sunday at Kennicott Grove’s Annual Folk Fest. - SundayOct 6, 2024 - 10:45 am to 5 pm

Unfortunately we didn't get enough sign-ups to proceed with this event! The Grove is 154+ acres of ecologically diverse prairie land with 3 miles of interpretive walking trails. It was the home of visionary horticulturist and educator, Dr. John Kennicott and his son, Robert Kennicott, Illinois’s first naturalist. The Grove was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

The Grove offers over 3 miles of walking/hiking trails from dawn until dusk daily through woodlands, wetlands, and prairies

  • An INTERPRETIVE CENTER (exhibits, store and restrooms)
  • THE REDFIELD ESTATE
  • LOG CABIN & NATIVE AMERICAN VILLAGE
  • ARCHIVES BUILDING
  • BLACKSMITH SHOP
  • THE KENNICOTT HOUSE
  • KENNICOTT GRAVES
  • THE GROVE SCHOOLHOUSE

On Sunday, Oct 6th, there will also be live folk music, square dancing, a dessert tent, nature walks, gift & craft items for sale, hearty outdoor dining, hayrides and historic interpretations.

We will meet at 10:45 am at the Interpretive Center for the 11:00 am Folk Fest time slot. Normally the Grove is free of charge. The Folk Fest is $5-$7 depending if you register ahead of time or on the day of the even I suggest registering ahead of time for the 11 am slot to save time.

Then we are free to explore the Grove and the Fest.  Everyone is free to stay as long as they desire or visit nearby River Trails Nature Center for more trail walking, visit ABT for a chocolate chip cookie and eye your next new appliance; go toJohnny’s Tap and Grill for refreshments.

Parking is available at several locations within The Grove and foot trails radiate out from the existing buildings, including one that extends into the Nature Preserve.  See west and east parking lots on Grove map.

Cost:  Folk Fest charge of $5 advance or $7 at the fest.
