Ironwood had already received 38" of snow for the season due to their Lake Superior Snowbelt micro-climate, so the trails were in fairly good condition. Because of the snow, many regional competitive skiers were out in full force training for upcoming events.
The Indianhead Motel (owned by skiers) in Ironwood was the lodging for all, including a separate 3-bedroom home on the property for 2 of the members staying for the entire week. One of those members took advantage of 3 lessons from ABR instructors. The other member in that group has been going to ABR for 17 years! One other member took advantage of a 2-night stay in a rustic cabin at ABR right on the trails which included a porcupine den under the cabin. (Always an adventure in the Northwoods!) Even though the drive is long to ABR, it was wonderful to experience the winter beauty of the 90 km of trails available in their Nordic Center.
