Although the weather was a bit chilly, the sun graced us with a beautiful day for exploring the oak savannas, woodlands on sand dunes, prairies, and ancient beaches, ponds, and marshes in the Calumet region. Virginia blue bells and mayapples were in abundance, and we even spotted a white egret along the marsh. We also enjoyed observing the Nature Center’s wild turkey, great horned owl and red tail hawk which were on display outdoors. In all, we hiked a little over 3 miles and had a great time catching up with each other as well as getting acquainted with a couple of the club’s newer members.
