Starved Rock State Park Hike and Kayak Weekend - Friday, September 8 - Sunday, September 10, 2023
A group of 19 LSSC adventurers stayed overnight at the Starved Rock Lodge on Friday, September 8 and Saturday, September 9. A number of us took advantage of a beautiful afternoon upon arrival to hike some of the closer trails. We enjoyed scrumptious dinners and drinks at the lodge’s restaurant on both nights, and were blessed with perfect sunny weather during the weekend. On Saturday, Dina Petrakis and Marian Nealon led groups of hikers on trails through the Starved Rock State Park bluffs, canyons, and along the river. On Sunday, we had a guided kayak trip for two hours along the Illinois River where we saw an eagle’s nest, herons, and osprey, marveled at the stone bluffs and myriad of water plants, and learned about the river’s history. It was a delightful trip and all agreed we should plan another Starved Rock trip again.
