2020 Tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House - Sunday, October 18

Club member Tim Thurlow led a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House in Hyde Park. An extensive restoration of the house was completed in 2019, bringing the interior back to the way it looked in 1910, the year the Robie’s moved in. In July 2019, UNESCO named the Robie House a World Heritage Site.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, the tour was limited to eight people in order to maintain social distancing within the house. On a very wet afternoon, eight club members took advantage of “the rain route” – viewing the exterior of the house under the very wide overhanging eaves, before going inside to view rooms on three floors, including the magnificent living room, surrounded on three sides by Wright’s distinctive art glass.

Tourers came away with a real feeling for Wright’s organic architecture.
