Hiking in McHenry County, Illinois - Saturday, September 26, 2020
Join us for a day of hiking in two lovely and ecologically diverse nature preserves in McHenry County (Illinois).
A morning hike (about 4 miles) at Moraine Hills State Park, and an afternoon hike (about 4 miles) at Glacial Park will give us the opportunity to walk in the diverse ecology of a glaciated area of Northern Illinois. We'll view and hike through glacially formed hills, ridges, and valleys, marshy and boggy areas, and restored prairie and savannah. Autumn wildflowers may be viewed throughout the day.
We will meet in the Northern Woods Parking Lot at Moraine Hills State Park at 10am. After we finish our hike in Moraine Hills State Park we will have lunch in the picnic area at Northern Woods, and then drive for approximately 25 minutes to Glacial Park where we will meet up in the parking lot (there is only one parking lot at Glacial Park), and continue our hike into the afternoon. We expect to finish up at Glacial Park no later than 4:00 PM.
