Chicago Architecture: A Walk Through Time - Sunday, September, 13, 2020

Chicago Architecture: A Walk Through Time is a 90-minute walking tour that showcases changes in Chicago’s buildings over the past 150 years. Starting at the Chicago Architecture Center, we walk past a series of buildings in chronological order. The first building is one that was completed in 1872 - just after the Chicago fire; the last building is one that is still under construction. As we ratchet forward in time, we see how each succeeding building differs in significant ways from the ones that preceded it and we explore the reasons for the changes, e.g., the response to fire, rising real estate prices, changes in building technology, changing tastes in decoration, changes in building regulations, etc. These things have created the variety of buildings that we see in Chicago today.
Our route is a figure-eight - we do a short loop south of the river, then we cross the river on the DuSable Bridge. We do a short loop north of the river and return to the Architecture Center. Please make sure you bring a face mask (masks and social distancing are requirements on all tours). Chicago Architecture Tours go rain or shine.

Although you can arrive earlier to enjoy the exhibits in the Architecture Center (included in your ticket price), you need to meet back to the area where tours begin at 12:45pm. The tour will start promptly at 1:00pm. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. At the end of the tour, you are also welcome to continue exploring the Architecture Center.
Please note: Due to CoVid-19 restrictions at the Chicago Architectural Center, this tour is limited to 6 members. But we also need six people for this specially priced event to happen; Registrants will be registered but not asked to pay until six people have signed up. We can then schedule the tour.
