Water Flicks at Navy Pier—"Minari"

About “Minari”:

Yearning to own a small patch of land and be more than a chicken sexer, the ambitious paterfamilias, Jacob Yi, relocates his Korean-American family: skeptical wife, Monica, and their children, David and Anne, from California to 1980s rural Arkansas, to start afresh and capture the elusive American Dream. However, new beginnings are always challenging, and to find out what is best for the family, let alone start a 50-acre farm to grow and sell Korean fruits and vegetables, is easier said than done. But, amid sincere promises, cultural unease, fleeting hopes, and the ever-present threat of financial disaster, Jacob is convinced that he has found their own slice of Eden in the rich, dark soil of Arkansas. Can grandma Soonja's humble but resilient Minari help the Yi family figure out their place in the world? This film won the Best Supporting Actress category in 2021 for the grandma played by Yuh-Jung Youn.

In 2014, the Polk family, legendary Chicago retailers and longstanding benefactors to the city and its neighborhoods, announced a $20 million legacy gift to Navy Pier to transform its entrance and enhance it with free arts and cultural offerings. Their gift culminated in what is now known as Polk Bros Park, a 13-acre green space that serves as the Pier’s gateway and the city’s front yard. Many of the Pier’s public programming is also supported by the Polk Bros. Foundation, which seeks to make Chicago a place where all Chicagoans can reach their full potential. As a result of their generosity and continued partnership, guests can enjoy this re-imagined space and unparalleled new experiences within it that are designed to inspire, educate and connect communities across the city and globe.
